This duo session features pianist
Andy Fielding with
Rick Fay, a fine Florida-based multi-reed man and jazz party favorite who succumbed to cancer in early 1999. A lively version of the little heard "Hindustan" gets things off to a roaring start, with
Fielding drumming on the piano at first to accompany Fay's clarinet, and Fay soon switches to add some blistering soprano sax as well. A magical revival of the Earl Hines & Jimmy Noone classic "Apex Blues" is another highlight, while Fay's rich soprano gives "Nuages" a very new look. A sleeper that is worth seeking. ~ Ken Dryden
