Stiffwiff is a freewheeling, loosely knit collective from Portland, Oregon, who seemingly worship at the altars of prog and krautrock. Their album UN is a batch of extended improvisations that overflow with psychedelic drones, communal spirit, and (thanks largely to the band’s double-drummer setup) hypnotically insistent rhythms. Despite the improvisatory nature of the tracks, it often sounds like the band has a definitive sonic goal in mind, making UN a happy mixture of freedom and intent.
