Anne Summers (actually a trio of men) does some exaggerated boasting on "King of Disaster," the first track of
Very Classy. "Got a talent not like Michael Jordan, more like
Kurt Cobain." Though
Very Classy, and that song in particular, is tasty ear candy, the band's talent isn't comparable to any innovators.
Anne Summers has obviously listened to a lot of
Elvis Costello,
They Might Be Giants, and
Squeeze, and though the catchy hooks on
Very Classy may not have been directly stolen from their influences, they sound very familiar.
Very Classy will bounce around inside your head for awhile, but unlike a
Cobain or
Costello record, when you eventually put it on your shelf, it may not come off for some time. ~ Mark Morgenstein
