String Quartet Tribute to Relient K is as melodically lightweight as the alt-CCM pop-punks it's riffing on, performing material from all four of the Ohio band's albums with a mixture of violin, viola, and cello. The songs are missing a lot without the slick production tricks, buoyant vocals, and sugary guitars of
Relient K's albums, but the melodies in "Pressing On," "Softer to Me," and especially "In Love With the 80's" stand up. Other highlights include "I Am Understood?" and "Be My Escape," the latter of which adds percussion for a particularly urgent effect. ~ Johnny Loftus
