Most bands would kill for a 30-year career so successful they could mark it with a 40-track anthology filled with bona fide life-defining hits. The Wiggles have not only pulled off this feat, but have done so in fetching colorful skivvies (while being ably assisted by a giant octopus named Henry, an oversized dog called Wags, a dinosaur dubbed Dorothy, and, of course, the ubiquitous Captain Feathersword). The lineup of the spectacularly successful children’s entertainers may have changed over the years, but their goal hasn’t—delivering pop songs with earworm melodies that promote healthy living to youngsters (“Fruit Salad,” “Getting Strong!”), educate them on life skills such as toilet training (“The Toilet Song”), and give them something to dance to (“Toot Toot, Chugga Chugga, Big Red Car”). Featuring seven brand-new recordings—updates of existing tracks such as “Emma’s Yellow Bow” plus new songs “Everybody Wiggle Along” and “We’re All Fruit Salad!”—the real skill of The Wiggles is that they not only craft timeless messages and melodies that will be handed down for generations, but they also give the adults something to hum along to.
