Hot off his season five win of the reality television show competition Sunday Best, gospel singer
Joshua Rogers' official debut is a great combination of "new artist" enthusiasm and vintage style. It's that latter quality that makes the closing title track an obvious highlight, while any generation can appreciate the elegant "We Expect You," a traditional crowd pleaser that brought down the house when it was performed on the show. On the other hand, there's the contemporary opener "God in Me," which slings slang and delivers the gospel with a hip-hop beat, or the very pop "In the Middle," which flirts with electro and other dancefloor sounds. With both sides of
Rogers' talent well represented, the only thing left to complain about is the short, seven-song track list, but consider this a mini-LP and it'll be one worth recommending.
