"Like I Want You," off the eight-track Take Time, and a featured role on "Chicago Freestyle," taken from Drake's Dark Lane Demo Tapes, greatly increased Giveon's profile during the first half of 2020. During the year's second half, the singer capitalized on the momentum by offering this four-song EP. The material fits in with Take Time -- the aggregate of the two releases would make for a cohesive 34-minute album -- centering on Giveon's deep baritone and elegant, often aching, ruminations. Not many active R&B artists are as effective at conveying conflicting emotions with such nuance. The same goes for communicating with a duet partner like it's a real heart-to-heart. He and touring partner Snoh Aalegra prove to be well-matched collaborators on "Last Time," a simmering ballad about not being able to resist one another as regret looms.
