Woodland Garden is a collection of relaxing contemporary instrumental numbers drawing inspiration from the lush forest scene depicted on its cover. While opener "Soaring Winds" seems to employ a synthesizer for maximum mood, pieces like "Moments in Time" and the stark "Snowfall" rely on a solitary classical guitar, and are much better for it. This is because the ambient nature effects, synthesized flutes, and pastoral guitars of tracks like "Mountain Spring" and "Waterfall" end up being too obvious to offer any real relaxation.
Woodland Garden will certainly take the edge off, and its budget price will entice the casual listener. But don't expect much more than new age cliché. ~ Johnny Loftus
