Companies like Brentwood Records should be given credit for coming up with new ways to sell the same worship songs that have been done just a bit better by other labels and other singers. Arranged and produced by Don Marsh, this experience -- one in a series of four new CDs aimed at men, women, teens, and kids -- combines legendary worship classics ("Rock of Ages") with more hip, modern praise songs like "God of Wonders" and "Shout to the Lord." The instrumental backgrounds are the unique part, with some giving off a country flavor, some even jazzy, and others cool and brassy. The problem is the choir, which sings every note as if genuine emotion were a sin. There's just a generic, canned quality to the voices, as pleasant as they are. True, this is not a gospel album, but a little more energy and spark couldn't have hurt. If there were no other worship collections out there, this would be a good deal at around ten bucks. But the multi-faceted WOW Worship samplers have set a standard that the imitators really should try to approach. ~ Jonathan Widran
