Smart, hard-rocking songs from a Nashville band that liked to mix raw, punk energy with healthy doses of Faces-style rock 'n' roll. The songs take a sometimes tough, sometime sunny look at love, the human condition, and how the two go together in the South. Vocalist Tommy Womack's voice has an appealing, shredded-vocal-cord rasp. The music always has a deep anchor in a hybrid of blues and country. Lyrics are shot through with an underlying sense of social consciousness, but never devolve into any sort of preaching.
