Short-lived hardcore-gangsta rappers
the Hard Boys followed the lead of
the Geto Boys and
N.W.A., in the process distancing themselves from their more party-orientated Atlanta peers. The trio released its sole album,
A-Town Hard Heads, at the dawn of the gangsta rap boom (1992) and did so on the Ichiban-distributed AEI label. Though noteworthy as trailblazers,
the Hard Boys couldn't translate their shocking-for-the-time novelty into national sales and fell into obscurity soon thereafter. ~ Jason Birchmeier
