This is a reissue in CD format of the excellent classic LP released in 1972, now remastered at Abbey Road, London, England. Paulinho Da Viola, a genuine bearer of the samba do morro (samba of the hills) tradition, has four of his own compositions on this album (which don't represent all his biggest hits, but "Dança Da Solidão" and "Guardei Minha Viola" are two of them) and eight by great all-time samba composers, such as Wilson Batista, Geraldo Das Neves, Nelson Cavaquinho, Cartola, Nelson Sargento, and Monarco. The renditions are well-balanced for a wider audience, ranging from mainstream samba-canção interpretations, which are defined by a middle class mid-tempo samba groove performed with instruments like piano, bass, drums, and typical samba do morro interpretations, with a full wild percussion and chorus. The hit "Dança Da Solidão" was more recently recorded with great success by pop singer Marisa Monte.
