Toni Costa is a guitarist/composer/singer who had songs (mostly electric funk/rock/pop) recorded by current pop stars. Under the favorable auspices of the inclusion of "A Sorte Muda" from the soap opera Era Uma Vez's soundtrack, he decided to record his first solo album, which includes that song and the presence of guest artists who had previously recorded his compositions:
Cássia Eller,
Luiz Melodia,
Armandinho,
Elba Ramalho,
Jussara Silveira,
Toni Garrido, and
Orlando Morais. The album also has the acoustic sambas "Sai Mané" and the very good "A Menina E A Bola," the peaceful instrumental pop ballad "Manaus" (the latter two with
Armandinho at the mandolin), and the bossa voice/violão "Lagoa," with the always correct
Jussara Silveira.
Costa is less of a singer, but his lyrics, if they don't reach the depth found in the best Brazilian poets' ones, are still better than the average. The album is avoidable for those interested in a truer Brazilian feel, but it may appeal to those into dancing grooves.
