Like its predecessors,
After the Dance is a well-crafted and rootsy album of modern country that displays just a bit too much grit for contemporary country radio and too much polish for fans of alternative country. Which means
After the Dance never found the audience it deserves. It may suffer from a couple of undistinguished songs, but
Reeves' voice is powerful and graceful throughout the album, giving weight even to the weaker material.
After the Dance is not a perfect album, yet it demonstrates that
Ronna Reeves should have a bigger audience than she does.
