ALBUM

C’est à un paradoxe typiquement souchonien auquel l’auditeur est confronté à l’écoute de cet album, puisque l’interprète de Allo Maman bobo aborde une fois de plus les choses avec un mélange singulier de délicatesse et de fermeté. La délicatesse, c’est avant tout celle de la douce nostalgie dont est pétri le chanteur, comme l’atteste cette belle photographie des années 1950 intitulée Âme fifties. Et dans On s’aimait, il conjugue les sentiments à l’imparfait, sur une petite sonate interprétée au piano droit par Vincent Delerm. La fermeté d’Alain Souchon (certes toujours teintée d’une certaine nonchalance) s’exprime, quant à elle, dans les moments où il dépeint les injustices du monde, et en particulier de la France.

Deux morceaux sont assez frappants à cet égard : Un Terrain en pente (où Souchon observe les migrants du haut de sa colline), et Ici et là (faisant écho à Né quelque part de son ami Maxime Le Forestier). Quant à la chanson Debussy Gabriel Fauré (coécrite avec David McNeil), elle réunit à la fois la nostalgie et le discours social puisque Souchon y évoque avec élégance le fossé qui existait entre la culture bourgeoise de ses parents et ses propres amours culturelles, plus populaires. L’humilité avec laquelle le chanteur observe son passé et le monde contemporain est flagrante dans ce 15e album studio, en particulier dans le morceau Presque, sorte de synthèse parfaite de son style (bien que les paroles ne soient pas signées de lui, mais de son ami Édouard Baer). Cette modestie se reflète dans la production délicate signée de ses deux fils, Charles (alias Ours) et Pierre.
