It's no secret that
John Lennon,
Paul McCartney, and
George Harrison wrote beautiful songs full of subtle shadings and well-developed melody lines that were so fully realized that
Beatles songs have been reinterpreted in every conceivable genre, from reggae to classical. This unassuming little instrumental album gives some of these gems a bluegrass spin, and the songs hold up surprisingly well, particularly "We Can Work It Out," "Things We Said Today," "Do You Want to Know a Secret," and "I've Just Seen a Face," which was pretty close to bluegrass anyway in its original
Beatles configuration. The end result is an album of pleasant background music that is quite soothing and familiar, if hardly urgent or essential. ~ Steve Leggett
