When listening to this set of acoustic folk music, one could be excused for feeling that this is a revival of 1930s country music or bluegrass. It sounds quite traditional and eerily familiar in spots, but in reality all 15 selections were written in recent times.
Rick Brockner, who wrote or co-wrote all of the numbers, keeps white rural folk music alive and vital on this enjoyable set, performing on dulcimer, mandolin and guitar. Cora Beth Bridges, who was only 16 at the time of this recording, is quite talented and a major asset to the project on violin and occasional background vocals. With Jan Johansson heard on mandolin and fiddle and Marty Koehler occasionally joining in on mandolin, this set is both traditional and modern, a revival of an older folk style and new folk music for the 21st century. ~ Scott Yanow
