This disc isn't for everyone. Anyone who doesn't like Leroy Anderson -- the postwar twentieth century American composer of Blue Tango, The Typewriter, Sleigh Ride, Bugler's Holiday, and The Syncopated Clock -- should stay away. And likewise, anyone who doesn't like theater organs -- specifically, the Sanfilippo Wurlitzer Unit Orchestra organ with its five manuals and 80 ranks -- should stay away. But anyone with a soft spot for the light classics and an irresistible urge to hear theater organs should jump right in. A native of Muncie, IN, Jelani Eddington is a master of his instrument, making it sing like a bird, ring like a bell, roar like thunder, and, on this disc, tick like a clock and rattle like a typewriter. While assuredly sentimental -- just listen to The Last Rose of Summer or The Girl I Left Behind Me from the Irish Suite -- the music of Anderson as presented here is also robust, rambunctious, and, if the right mood is upon you, quite affecting. RJE Productions, a label located in Reno, NV, provides Eddington and the Sanfilippo with some big enough and real enough to frighten neighbors a block away.
