Available as a two-disc, 32-track CD album and also as a downloadable mp3 playlist, this interesting set captures bluegrass banjo just as it came into its own as a dominant style in the '50s and early '60s. Among the highlights here are Flatt & Scruggs’ classic “Foggy Mountain Breakdown,”
the Stanley Brothers’ “Little Maggie,”
Bill Monroe’s “Footprints in the Snow,” and Jimmy Martin &
the Osborne Brothers’ “Across the Sea Blues,” among many others, making this a good primer for the golden age of bluegrass banjo. ~ Steve Leggett
