The title may be
Blues Legend, and while
John Lee Hooker certainly fits that bill, the problem here is that this isn't the material that made him a legend -- it's comprised of latter-day recordings from the late '80s and '90s. Granted,
Hooker was still quite listenable at that point in time, but the music itself was rarely legendary. Nevertheless, he had enough good moments -- and enough of them are here on this compilation -- to make the album worth its budget price. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
