In July of 1999, American artist
David Pomeranz, known for, among other things, singing the film theme song "Got to Believe in Magic" from the 1982 motion picture Zapped!, as well as composing the 1976 hit for
Barry Manilow, "Tryin' to Get the Feeling Again," released
Born for You: His Best & More on the Philippine affiliate of international record company Universal Music. Signed in 1999,
Pomeranz recorded
Born for You in the Philippines with local musicians. The album was co-produced and co-arranged by
Pomeranz and Filipino musician Lorrie Ilustre. A new composition is featured -- the title song "Born for You," composed by
Pomeranz and renowned songwriter David Zippel, is a standout distinguished by an intimate, catchy chorus. The album also includes re-recordings of such songs as "King and Queen of Hearts" and "Got to Believe in Magic," first released in the 1980s by
Pomeranz on Warner Music. Also included are versions of "The Old Songs" and "Tryin' to Get the Feeling" -- both hits for
Barry Manilow -- as well as a recording of "Tell Me," a popular Philippine evergreen composed by the talented and prolific songwriter Louie Ocampo. The sound of
Born for You is romantic and soft on the ears -- a style of music well-suited for the Philippines, where passionate, easy listening love songs are extremely popular. The album sold extremely well, and has been expected to surpass 250,000 units sold (gold in the Philippines is 20,000 units; platinum is 40,000). As far as romantic music is concerned, the record is very well done and offers many soothing moments. ~ David Gonzales
