The first three volumes of the
Brownswood Electr*c series, put together by
Gilles Peterson associate
Alex "Patchwork" Peterson, increased the profiles of left-field electronic music producers such as
Pearson Sound,
George Fitzgerald,
Shlomo,
Mount Kimbie, and
Ta-Ku. The fourth volume showcases tracks by another varied assortment of newcomers who cross several styles, including bass music, house, oblique R&B, and even drum'n'bass. The top two cuts are from Germany's
Glenn Astro, whose "We Killed Our Probation Worker" is a blissed-out,
Floating Points-like house track, and the unfortunately named
Louis Futon, a Philadelphia duo whose GANZ-remixed "Shoulda Known" begins the compilation in energizing, dazed style. Other memorable contributions come from
Nik Itch and
Deft. The highlights from this and the preceding three volumes would make for one very good compilation.
