Dan Baird and his producer, Brendan O'Brien, trade noisy guitar licks on another set of gutbucket rock & roll tunes.
Baird's approach is so basic it borders on the generic, except when he comes up with striking lyrics to supplement the simple sound, such as on the album-opening "Younger Face," a
Dylanish complaint about "another five and dime would-be local legend" who "has come to take your place" (or maybe to take
Baird's, unless he can distinguisb himself from the pack a little more often). There is also a nice cover of the old
Deep Purple hit "Hush" that features songwriter
Joe South on "na na's, hushes and good love's." ~ William Ruhlmann
