On the budget-label Colortone,
Cha Cha Cha is likely one of those ubiquitous, lost-the-rights sessions on a dozen labels and credited to more than a dozen artists. Whether it's "
Eduardo Fernandez" or someone else, there is something to this album. First, you have two of
Perez Prado's biggest hits, "Guaglione" and "Patricia," covered faithfully but interestingly. The latter, plus "Tea for Two Cha Cha," are two of the most common Latin covers from the period. The remaining seven cuts are hoary standards adapted to cha cha cha, but they are not without their winsome qualities, particularly the gritty,
Prado-esque organ. Too cheesy for Latin connoisseurs,
Cha Cha Cha is one of the jauntier, mass-marketed, Latinate albums "for dancers only."
