Lama Surya Das and Steven Halpern have created a stirring companion CD to Das's book AWAKENING THE BUDDHIST HEART, setting traditional Tibetan Buddhist Vajra chants to hip-hop beats and droning synthesizer. The melding of Eastern chant with Western dance rhythms is not a new trick, but few have done so as successfully.
