The appeal of
the Mobius Band has something to do with their half-loose/half-tight makeup. The vocals are lax, if not tossed-off, while the guitars often sound as if they were made up on the spot and drop into all the right spaces by happenstance. This is offset by a rubber band-tight rhythm section that occasionally incorporates electronic percussion and minor synthetic textures. On this 20-minute EP for Ghostly International, the band falls somewhere between
Interpol and
the Modern Lovers (or even a well-rested version of
Bedhead), producing natural guitar pop that's full of drama yet free of repressive theatrics. ~ Andy Kellman
