You'd be hard-pressed to find any substandard
Elmore James collection, and while not definitive, there's more than enough on this 24-cut CD to satisfy any blues lover or novice. The guitar and vocal sound of
James is well reproduced here, while all but one of the selections are penned by the masterful bluesman. The program starts with some obscurities, and there are two tracks with horn section backing, but the CD ends strong with all-time hits "Look on Yonder Wall," "It Hurts Me Too," and "Standing at the Crossroads" among the concluding tracks. There's still not a soul who can match the biting electric slide and expressive vocal chops of
Elmore James, and this is an excellent set to get anyone started and going.
