Every so often a guitar player comes out of thin air to knock you off your feet.
Matson is such a player. A white fellow from Minnesota, he can play bottleneck slide blues like he was born with a National guitar in his hands. He has a confident, solid vocal talent to boot, packing a suitable punch behind his fierce guitar attack. Sure, he doesn't exactly break the style open, touching on some classics of the genre and originals that stick to well-worn themes. But his picking is powerful enough to save a sinner. ~ Tim Sheridan
