Country Music Hall of Fame contains a good cross-section from
Red Foley's heyday in the late '40s and early '50s. All of the selections of this 16-track, single-disc compilation were recorded for Decca Records. While not all of his hits are present -- even some of his biggest singles, including "Smoke on Your Water," are missing -- most of the essential items ("Chattanoogie Shoe Shine Boy," "Tennessee Saturday Night," "Peace in the Valley") are here, making it an essential introduction to one of country's biggest stars. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
