Released in 2000, Danish Intuitive Music culls various compositions written by members of the Group for Intuitive Music and/or performed by this ensemble and their derivatives (and two cuts by the British ensemble Edges). The group was formed in 1974 by Jørgen Lekfeldt and Elisabeth Klein, and also comprised Carl Bergstrøm-Nielsen, Anders Keiding, and Niels Rosing-Schow. Strongly influenced by the music and philosophy of Karlheinz Stockhausen, especially his graphic and verbal scores and his conception of an intuitive music, the group developed their own repertoire. The works presented here were written by Lekfeldt, Bergstrøm-Nielsen, Ivan Eugen Vincze (who joined in 1982), and Jørgen Plaetner. Each composer gets 15 to 20 minutes of exposure. Recordings were made at concerts from the late '70s and the '90s. All pieces include a part of chance improvisation or decision-making from the performers, be it the personal interpretation of abstract graphic scores or the following of rules and paths through modular compositions. Most of the ten pieces are interesting and suitably performed, with highlights including "Mirror Labyrinths" and Bergstrøm-Nielsen's three pieces; although this kind of music can often be more exciting for the performer than the listener, he manages to get fascinating results, something that can't be said for everything on this CD. ~ François Couture
