The early 2000s metal revival was marked by a significant number of skinny, bespectacled indie-rock types throwing up the devil horns and declaring a life-long allegiance to Slayer. Some of these declarations rang truer than others.
Louisville, Kentucky's Dead Child boasts some serious indie heavyweights (Dave Pajo chief among them) whose previous bands have included Slint, Anomoanon, Shipping News, the For Carnation, and Palace, among others. While the band's pedigree may not indicate a penchant for the loud and heavy, the sound on this blistering EP is pure, vintage scare-the-parents metal--ringing loud, clear, and utterly true.
