The 20th volume of
Def Jam's budget digital compilations puts a spotlight on the label's women. Like the other volumes, it's not definitive, more like a grab bag with a mix of moderate-to-big hits and deeper cuts. Among the selections here are
Chrisette Michelle's "Epiphany (I'm Leaving),"
Rihanna's "Unfaithful,"
Ashanti's "Rain on Me," and a pleasantly surprising pick from one of the label's earliest R&B artists,
Alyson Williams, who is represented with "Just Call My Name." This isn't one of the more necessary volumes in the
Def Jam 25 series, but serious fans can fill a few gaps in their collections. ~ Andy Kellman
