Dominguinhos is a talented singer, musician (accordionist), and composer, with 50 years dedicated to the northeastern tradition -- and finally he is beginning to get the attention he deserves. His compositions have a northeastern flavor and the best influences of the southeast popular song. In this live recorded album, which is in fact a retrospective of his long career, he sings here some of his biggest hits, like "Eu Só Quero um Xodó" (recorded by
Gilberto Gil in 1974), "Tantas Palavras" (written with
Chico Buarque), "Lamento Sertanejo" (written with
Gilberto Gil, recorded by Maria Betânia), and two hits included in the soundtrack of the major soap opera Roque Santeiro: "De Volta Para o Aconchego" (recorded by
Elba Ramalho in 1980) and "Isso Aqui tá Bom Demais" (recorded with Buarque). Backed by excellent musicians, he alternates renditions with the typical northeastern regional (small group) and more mainstream treatments with brass and strings. ~ Alvaro Neder
