Fortunately,
Kid606's first album for the (comparatively) high-profile Ipecac Recordings proves just as uncompromising, schizophrenic, and hilarious as his previous recordings, ridden with blasts of skull-cracking static, breakbeat noise, and tortured found-sound vocal samples -- all digitally processed to within an inch of their lives. From the R&B-goes-hardcore "Secrets 4 Sale" (with vocals by label associate
Mike Patton) to song titles like the IDM-baiting "Luke Vibert Can Kiss My Indie-Punk Whiteboy Ass," "It'll Take Millions in Plastic Surgery to Make Me Black," "GQ on the EQ," "Two Fingers in the Air Anarchy Style," and "My Kitten,"
Kid606 injects a much-needed sense of humor into the experimental/hardcore scene. That may not be enough to warrant any more than two or three listens, but there's at least a 50-50 balance between senseless distortion and well-programmed tracks with a semblance of a groove.
