From their giggly, cutesy bimbo image to their hook-laden, club-oriented sound, South Florida's
L'Trimm is exactly the type of pop/rap for which hardcore hip-hoppers have nothing but contempt. Be that as it may, the adolescent female duo's second album,
Drop That Bottom, is an often entertaining and enjoyable effort that works quite well as club music. Like
L'Trimm's 1988 debut, the album must be taken for exactly what it is: pure, unapologetic, mindless fun. True, rappers Tigra and Bunny D. hardly possess the rapping skills of
Queen Latifah or
MC Lyte -- far from it -- but their sense of fun brings to life such infectious fare as "My Heart Went Boom," "Double Trouble" and a remix of Grab It's hit title song.
L'Trimm may get no respect in "the hood," but on the dance floor,
Drop That Bottom definitely has its place. ~ Alex Henderson
