Steve Forbert couldn't have picked a more appropriate title than
Evergreen Boy for his latest effort. It contains the same sturdy roots rock that
Forbert's been sending our way for years.
Forbert's yarns about relationships and daily life, like "Breaking Through" and "Trusting Old Soul," are spawned from the same spool of Americana that's served
Bruce Springsteen and
John Mellencamp so well. Although
Forbert will probably never be as popular or acclaimed as those two, he's carved his own niche, with mature, mellow music that can still rock when necessary. ~ Mark Morgenstein
