George Evans is a promising singer based in Toronto, Canada. He digs into a dozen standards on Eyes for You with backing by guitarist Reg Schwager, pianist Mark Eisenman, bassist Neil Swainson, drummer Jerry Fuller, and sometimes Denny Christianson guesting on trumpet. Evans, who occasionally uses an excess of vibrato (particularly on ballads), has a strong voice, is in-tune, and swings lightly. His renditions of such songs as "I Only Have Eyes for You," "I'm Gonna Laugh You Right Out of My Life," "I'll Never Be the Same," and "Spring Will Be a Little Late This Year" are heartfelt, thoughtful, and a bit uplifting, straddling the boundary between swinging jazz and middle-of-the-road 1950s pop vocalizing.
