Though her lyric drives occasionally get in the way of the flow of the music,
Les Sampou's stories are intelligent and cleverly told, and well-buoyed by the instrumental arrangements. Though Les sounds at times like a number of other musical muses -- from
Bonnie Raitt to
Crystal Gayle -- her voice and what she uses it to say are personal and individual. Musically,
Sampou and her band are also quite talented and never let the music overpower the meaning. ~ Matthew Robinson
