This collector's LP from British MCA has some rarities from the swing era featuring the great trombonist
Jack Teagarden as a sideman.
Teagarden is heard on a couple of novelties sung by
Johnny Mercer, in an all-star band headed by bass saxophonist
Adrian Rollini (which includes clarinetist
Benny Goodman), on four songs apiece accompanying singers
Dick Robertson and the underrated
Teddy Grace, and on six obscure recordings with
Paul Whiteman's Orchestra and "Swing Wing" in 1938. Also heard on most of the latter tunes is the singing group
the Modernaires. The
Whiteman and
Mercer performances in particular are rare, although the other 12 numbers (there are 20 on this generous LP) have been reissued on CD.
