Though flutist
Sherry Winston has many interesting solo ideas and a gorgeous tone, sub-standard arrangements and a generally weak backing mar the effect of
For Lovers Only. The lineup certainly looks OK, including
Eric Gale on guitar and bassist
Marcus Miller for several tracks, plus one song with
Patrice Rushen on piano.
Gale's soloing is solid, too, but the rest of the players can manage only stale re-treads of light fusion. The last track,
Winston's version of
Stevie Wonder's "All Is Fair in Love," is a solid exception. ~ John Bush
