Tank and the Bangas recharged in 2020 with the
André 3000 birthday tribute "For André," a version of
Burt Bacharach and
Hal David's "What the World Needs Now," and this collaborative six-track EP. The band continues to pour a mix of wit, candor, and ebullience similar to what filled
Green Balloon, and do so while incorporating input from well over a dozen featured artists and producers including fellow New Orleanians such as
Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah (whose trumpet adds funky punctuation) and
PJ Morton (whose vocals enhance
Tank's humorous exasperation). Together, they take aim at a shallow socialite, social media, and overzealous air travel security, avow the benefits of both solitude and companionship, and uphold the legacy of NOLA's indigenous bounce music. Supported with equally wide-ranging playing from the instrumentalists, this is a pleasing intermediary release following the LP that earned them a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.
