Moving away from the cool, assured minimalist house of previous
Metamatics material,
From Death to Passwords Where You're a Paper Airplane finds Lee Norris pursuing the dark side of electronica, with shadowy, evocative chords and female vocals on the opener "Here to Go." A few other tracks recall the wintry sound of previous material, with "Rapala Shad" standing out as one of the highlights, a meticulously produced junior-electro track. The percussion programs on "Colmic Zeus" grow steadily more and more complicated, while the gorgeous, atmospheric closer "Inart" somehow manages to sound both wintry and warm at the same time. While veterans of the mid-'90s Clear stable have scattered to the four corners,
Metamatics keeps refining and perfecting his aesthetic of otherworldly electronic music. ~ John Bush
