In the year that the
Os Novos Baianos were dissolved,
Pepeu Gomes launched this instrumental debut album as a solo artist. Not quite as successful as a commercial product, the release nevertheless is an exciting sample of
Pepeu's eclectic mixture of rock, samba, choro, baião, frevo, and other genres on his "guibando" (a two-arm custom-made instrument that is a cross between an electric guitar and a mandolin). His virtuosic playing adds so much excitement to the already explosive Brazilian rock synthesis. This album deserves more exposure, even decades after its release.
