West coast troublemakers
Mother Superior cleaned out the closets (and installed a few new cubbyholes) for 2008's
Grande, a collection of live cuts, discarded bits, re-recorded nuggets, reconfigured favorites, and new slabs of hard rock that will please both longtime fans and those not yet schooled in the sweet, classic rock-tinged milieu of this road-tested, hardworking American act. Highlights include rumbling, bottom-heavy remixes of 2005's "Get That Girl" and "Meltdown," a sparse, bluesy, and brooding rendition of 2004's (then) string-heavy "Four Walls," live versions of "Five Stars," "Jaded Little Princess," and "Beg Borrow Steal," and a couple of brand new tunes that include a faithful, if slightly more sinister take on the
Beatles classic "Happiness Is a Warm Gun." ~ James Christopher Monger
