Trumpeter
Greg Gisbert, an excellent hard bop trumpeter, manages to hold his own with the brilliant tenor saxophonist
Chris Potter (whose tone was already becoming luxurious in 1992) and the powerhouse pianist
John Campbell on this swinging and fairly advanced date. With stimulating support provided by bassist
Dwayne Burno and drummer
Gregory Hutchinson, the quintet digs into four group originals,
Duke Pearson's "Is That So?," "Autumn in New York,"
Thad Jones' "Three in One," and a typically burning version of "The Eternal Triangle." There is plenty of fire on this set, with
Gisbert making one wonder why he is not much better known.
