Herz Mit is subtitled as a "hörstück for five turntables and 16 records." This continuous piece is broken into six indexes on the CD, indicating movements in the work.
Claus van Bebber uses prepared records and turntables with four speed settings and backward playing capabilities. Sound sources include
Bach and
Edgar Froese, but they are rendered unrecognizable. Not a quoter like
Christian Marclay,
van Bebber takes his sound sources on a more abstract level, building a complex sound sculpture out of surface noise and miscellaneous sounds. This piece is slightly stronger than the 1993
Schallplattenkonzert; it has more depth in texture. Released in 1995,
Herz Mit was reissued in 1999 as part of the limited-edition Berslton/NURNICHTNUR box set
First Four.
