Don't go thinking you'll get any great insight into hip-hop's influence on reggae from this collection.
Hip Hop + Reggae features tracks that are influenced by the beats and production values of hip-hop, but it's a stretch to put the genre in the title, especially first. There are some great tracks here, but finding the hip-hop elements is tough.
Honorebel's "Material Girl" has orchestral swoops and a hip-hop-sourced breakdown,
Mad Cobra's "Press the Button" would sit nicely in
Wu-Tang's songbook, and
Spragga Benz's delivery is one part
Biz Markie, one part
Ol' Dirty Bastard. Otherwise, this is straight-up dancehall, more spliff than blunt.
