Worms, worms, worms. Grindcore demons
Decrypt are positively obsessed with them! Not only do they cover their first album,
Holy Erotic Rapture, with numerous drawings of them, their very music appears to spew forth in slimy, decay-loving filth. Sounding as if nothing has happened post-
Napalm Death's first two albums,
Decrypt's CD is a corrosive and claustrophobic assault, burying the obvious technical ability required to even conceive of such music in each song's ruthless inaccessibility and bludgeoning velocity. Vocalists Zach Gheaja and Chris Montez (also the guitarist) trade off hysterical screeching and guttural croaking over nihilistic outbursts like "Armageddon=Satisfaction," "Intentional Tourettes," and "Fecal Matter Platter" -- yum! In the end, the odd punk rock riff ("Lost Cause"), brief snatch of slap-bass ("Mental Restraints"), or semi-musical guitar harmony (see the standouts "Immaculate Deception" and "Grind A.D.," complete with a three-second reggae part), are about as much rest on the ears as one will get. For grindcore fanatics only. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
