Hot Off the Grill features a dozen rock and soul instrumentals as performed by keyboardist Richard Evans. While Evans' renditions of "The 'In' Crowd," "Watermelon Man," and "Back to the Chicken Shack" aren't quite as attention-getting as the originals, he does bring enough grit and fun to them to make them enjoyable background music. Likewise, Evans' own compositions, "Off the Track" and "Big Daddio" aren't as distinctive as "Green Onions" or "Sunny," but they do fit in well with the rest of the album. Overall,
Hot Off the Grill does a fair job of providing a fun, funky atmosphere without being too obtrusive about it. ~ Heather Phares
