Electric Guitarist Kritter Johnsson leads his trio (with Peter Danemo on drums and Mattias Svensson on bass) through nearly an hour of well-rehearsed tunes and clips, some of which work considerably better than others. Nine of the tracks last under a minute apiece, and are part of an original "suite." Unfortunately, with the limited time, they hardly develop. Otherwise, there are some atmospherics à la
Bill Frisell, and even a tip of the hat to
Derek Bailey. Some of the tracks, however, are bathed in a mundane vernacular, and the lack of consistency is disappointing. Still, there is plenty of talent and potential packed within this Swedish trio. Svensson in particular exposes a lovely tone, a strong jazz aesthetic, and a sense of countermelody. His presence adds immeasurably to the sound of the group. ~ Steve Loewy
